A Flexible, Engaging Learning Experience
MVP offers students the ability to learn from home using a district-provided laptop or tablet. The curriculum, developed in partnership with Pearson, the world’s largest learning company, is NCAA-approved and designed to prepare students for college and career success. The program features a combination of live (synchronous) classes for core courses and independent (asynchronous) learning for other subjects.
Students will have weekly live sessions with their teachers and the ability to access learning materials and assignments 24/7. Progress is tracked through Pearson’s learning management system, and instructors are available for one-on-one support during office hours or by appointment.
The MVP is not a standalone school but an extension of the student’s zoned school, meaning students enrolled in MVP remain a part of their local school community. Whether they live in or outside of McMinn County, enrolled students can continue to participate in important school events, including sports, dances, clubs, and graduation ceremonies. The program is designed to ensure that students can access all the academic and extracurricular opportunities offered by their zoned schools. (Note: Students residing outside of the county will be enrolled at the school that maps closest in distance to their current address.)
Academic Excellence and Support
The McMinn Virtual Program offers a rigorous curriculum that aligns with national standards and encourages students to develop skills such as strong reading comprehension, self-discipline, and perseverance. While students enjoy some flexibility in their schedules, they are expected to log in daily, maintain satisfactory grades, and meet all assignment deadlines. Failure to meet these expectations may result in dismissal from the program.
Parents and guardians will play a key role in the program, as they are expected to monitor student progress weekly, ensuring that their child stays on track to meet academic goals.
Enrollment Considerations
The following factors are taken into consideration when reviewing program applicants:
- Attendance
- Past and Current Grades
- Disciplinary Record
- Low Credits/Credit Recovery Needs
- Access to reliable high-speed internet
- Parent/Guradian Availability and Support
In order to remain enrolled in the program, students must maintain satisfactory academic progress and participate in required in-person testing and district assessments.
Different from Traditional Homeschooling
The McMinn Virtual Program is not the same as traditional homeschooling. While students complete their coursework from home, they remain enrolled in McMinn County Schools, with all the benefits and responsibilities of being part of their zoned school community. Unlike homeschooling, where parents often take on the role of educator, the McMinn Virtual Program provides Tennessee certified teachers from Pearson, a global leader in education, to facilitate and guide student learning.
Students in the virtual program are held to the same academic standards as their peers in the classroom, and they participate in district assessments, in-person state testing, and are eligible for all extracurricular activities such as sports, dances, and graduation. This structured, district-managed virtual learning model ensures that students remain part of the school community while receiving the flexibility of online learning. Additionally, residency in McMinn County is not required for enrollment in the program. Students from outside the county can enroll in the school nearest to them based on proximity.
How to Get Started
You're in the right place! Complete this interest form telling us a little about yourself and we'll be in touch. The program follows a semester-based schedule, and while students may choose to return to in-person learning at the end of the semester, they will not be eligible to switch back to the virtual program during the same school year.
McMinn County Schools is excited to offer this new learning opportunity to families in the district and surrounding area, combining flexibility with high-quality education to help students succeed. The McMinn Virtual Program is a pathway to help students thrive in an ever-changing educational landscape and prepare for lifelong success.
